You’ve been asking the same question over and over: “Where should I actually stay in Kyoto?” So today, I’m breaking down the best areas and budget-friendly hotels 🏯 Picture narrow lantern-lit alleys, the scent of incense drifting from a nearby temple, and the quiet hum of a local neighborhood waking up. I’ll walk you through each district’s vibe—from the historic charm of Higashiyama to the foodie paradise of Pontochō. The visuals here are soft, warm, and cinematic—think golden hour light, tatami mats, and paper screens sliding open. This isn’t just about finding a bed; it’s about finding the right home base for your Kyoto story. Whether you want culture, nightlife, or peace—you’ll know exactly where to book. Bro, the area around Pontocho is wild at night. Hotels are pricey tho. Anyone got hidden gems nearby?

Anyone else think staying near Kyoto Station is way more practical? I did that and saved so much time commuting lol

We stayed near Gion last fall and it was magical, but honestly super crowded. Definitely worth it for the vibes though!

I tried a budget hotel in Higashiyama and it was surprisingly nice. No frills but clean as hell. Would recommend!
