You’ve been asking: can you actually get around Japan without speaking Japanese? 🌸 Today I’m putting it to the real test. Picture busy Tokyo streets, quiet train stations, and tiny local ramen shops where no one speaks English. I’ll walk through the whole experience—ordering food, catching the wrong train, asking for help with nothing but hand gestures and a smile. Visually, think neon signs, soft vlog warmth, and raw handheld shots. This isn’t a perfect travel guide—it’s the chaotic, real struggle of navigating a foreign country on your own. The payoff? You’ll walk away knowing it’s totally doable and way less scary than it seems. So, what’s the one thing you’re most nervous about doing without a shared language? Drop it below—I’ll answer every single one.

Bro, I literally pointed at a picture of ramen and grunted and they understood me perfectly. 10/10 communication skills haha.

Does anyone else feel like you miss out on the deeper cultural stuff if you can't speak the language? I loved it, but sometimes I felt like a tourist on the surface.

I was so nervous about this before my trip, but Google Translate saved me more times than I can count. The locals really appreciate any small effort you make though!

Honestly, I did 3 weeks in Tokyo and Osaka with zero Japanese and had zero issues. The signs are super clear and everyone is so patient lol.
